The new Ferrari 458 Spider incorporates an extraordinary number of truly avant-garde technical solutions. Many of these are related to the chassis, whose weight and rigidity have been meticulously optimized. New light alloys, new types of welding and fusions have been introduced. The Spider uses the 458’s remarkable seven-speed, electro-hydraulic, dual-shift gearbox allowing incredibly quick gear changes. The transmission is coupled with Ferrari’s highly sophisticated electronic e-Diff, which works in tandem with the latest generation ABS and traction control.

The 458 Spider’s incredible dynamic behavior is due to its sophisticated multi-link suspension and new generation magnetic shock absorbers, responsive steering rack and control systems. All the functions are managed directly by the driver through the steering wheel mounted Manettino, which allows the driver to alter the amount of electronic intervention according to preferences. Ferrari’s Magneto rheological Suspension System (SCM) contributes to reduce the body roll to further enhance precision and stability when exiting a corner. Representing an essential component of the 458 Spider’ pleasurable driving experience, the car’s braking system features carbon ceramic discs and six-piston calipers (CCM).

Aerodynamic studies, moreover, have minimized wind noise in order to allow occupants to engage in a normal conversation even with the roof down. Airflow is optimized thanks to the air inlets on the rear deck. The rear deck is now entirely closed and the engine no longer visible, creating a strong aesthetic effect. In typical Ferrari tradition, every kind of personalization is possible, through the Program available at the dealership or at the Atelier in Maranello, and also via the recently launched Tailor Made Program which offers even more daring interpretations.
